HNLU Welcomes Hon’ble Mr. Justice J.K. Maheshwari on His Maiden Visit to Campus

Raipur, July 11, 2025 — Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) had the privilege of hosting Hon’ble Mr. Justice J.K. Maheshwari, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and the newly nominated Visitor of HNLU, on his maiden visit to the University campus. Accompanying him was Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and former Member of HNLU’s General and Executive Council.

As part of the Induction Programme for the newly admitted B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) students, both Hon’ble Judges addressed the first-year batch and shared valuable insights drawn from their distinguished judicial careers.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) V. C. Vivekanandan highlighted the significance of their visit and reaffirmed HNLU’s commitment to legal excellence and institutional growth.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, in his inspiring address, encouraged students to approach legal education with curiosity and enjoyment rather than stress. Emphasizing a practical and relatable understanding of the law, he highlighted the importance of simplifying legal concepts in one’s own words. He advised students to grow under the guidance of their professors while making focused and consistent efforts toward their goals, reminding them not to lose sight of their original aspirations

Hon’ble Mr. Justice J.K. Maheshwari, in his inspiring address, urged students to approach their legal education with firm determination and a deep sense of purpose. Reflecting on the symbolism of the black coat and lawyer’s tie as emblems of dignity and peace, he emphasized that becoming a legal professional requires not only knowledge and oratory skills but also a strong moral compass rooted in constitutional values.

Quoting “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah”, he highlighted the essential role of constitutional morality in legal practice and governance. Justice Maheshwari encouraged students to reflect on why they chose law—not just to learn it, but to live it with integrity and responsibility.

Outlining a five-step approach to mastering the law—Reading, Writing, Discussion, Thinking, and Application—he described legal education as a journey toward excellence in the noblest of professions. He concluded with an empowering message drawn from Swami Vivekananda: “Take up one idea. Make that idea your life—think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let every part of your body be full of that idea.”

Justice Maheshwari called upon the students to commit wholeheartedly to becoming the professionals and individuals they aspire to be.

The occasion also marked the release of the fifth edition of the HNLU Gazette, the University’s bi-annual newsletter, by the esteemed Judges.

The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Registrar (I/c), HNLU.
