NLSIU Bengaluru Ranked India’s No. 1 NLU in NIRF Law Rankings 2025 – Leading for 8 Consecutive Years

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has once again secured the No. 1 position in the NIRF Law Rankings 2025, marking its eighth (8th) consecutive year at the top.

The announcement was made on September 4, 2025, at the Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, where the Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, released the 10th edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) results. Dr. Saurabh Bhattacharjee, Associate Professor of Law and Dean-Academics, received the award on behalf of NLSIU.

NIRF 2025 Performance Highlights

NLSIU’s ranking reflects excellence across teaching, research, inclusivity, and perception. The University scored high on key parameters:

  • Teaching, Learning & Resources: 91.35/100
  • Research & Professional Practice: 56.25/100
  • Graduation Outcome: 84.40/100
  • Outreach & Inclusivity: 68.90/100
  • Perception: 100.00/100
  • Total Score: 82.97

Leadership Speaks: NLSIU NIRF Ranking 2025

Expressing his gratitude, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Vice-Chancellor of NLSIU, said:

“NLS has consistently delivered extraordinary teaching and learning practices over the last three decades. We continue to innovate with small group learning, enhanced research fellowships, and flexible research policies. Our vision is to partner with governments, corporations, and civil society to shape global conversations in law and public policy.”

Adding to this, Prof. (Dr.) Nigam Nuggehalli, Registrar of NLSIU, highlighted the University’s ambitious infrastructural expansion:

“We are redeveloping our 30-acre campus along with an additional 7 acres granted by the Government of Karnataka. Upcoming facilities include world-class sports complexes in 2025, new academic blocks in 2026, and residential infrastructure by 2027. These developments aim to make NLSIU the most inclusive and diverse law campus in India.”

About NIRF Rankings: NLSIU NIRF Ranking 2025

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched in 2015-16 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now the Ministry of Education). It evaluates institutions across various categories such as universities, engineering, management, law, medical, and more.
