National Law University (NLU) Odisha (NLUO) is offering a Double Credit Course on “Animal Law: Perspectives from the Global South”, starting 12th January 2026. The field of animal law is gaining global significance, particularly in the Global South, where human–animal relationships shape culture, livelihoods, religion, and environmental practices.

Course on Animal Law 2026: Overview

Animal law is now recognised as a crucial area within environmental justice and social welfare. This advanced course delves into the evolution, philosophy, and implementation of animal protection laws in India and other Global South nations. It emphasises India’s primary legislation—the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA)—while integrating comparative perspectives from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and other regions.

The course is specially designed for students who completed the Foundation of Animal Law program last year. However, it remains open to all learners interested in understanding animal welfare law, ethics, and policy in a broader socio-legal context.
