The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has announced the opening of applications for its prestigious NLSIU Research Fellowships for 2025-2026. These fellowships offer an excellent opportunity for researchers, scholars, and young professionals to contribute to cutting-edge research in law, social sciences, public policy, and interdisciplinary fields. The positions are offered on a contractual basis for the academic year 2025–26.
Available Fellowship Positions
NLSIU invites applications for the following fellowship categories:
1. Graduate Research Fellowship (10 Positions)
Two of these positions are supported by the JSW Centre for the Future of Law at NLSIU.

2. NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship (5 Positions)
3. University Research Fellowship (5 Positions)
About the NLSIU Research Fellowships Programme
In 2020–21, NLSIU introduced its Grand Challenges Model, identifying five major 21st-century challenges:
- Climate Justice
- Labour and Work
- State Capacity and Reform
- Law and Technology
- Access to Justice and Legal Reform
The Research Fellowships Programme 2025–26 aligns with this model by promoting original research, fostering academic collaboration, and widening interdisciplinary engagement across legal and social science domains.

Objectives of the Fellowships
The NLSIU Fellowship Programme aims to:
1. Strengthen Research Interventions
Support policy-based and academic research aligned with NLSIU’s grand challenges.
2. Expand Interdisciplinary Research
Encourage innovative work across legal studies, social sciences, and public policy.
3. Build a Vibrant Research Community
Foster collaboration among NLSIU faculty, visiting scholars, and fellows.
4. Promote Global Academic Leadership
Enhance India’s presence in global scholarly networks through impactful research.
Location
Fellows are generally expected to work on campus at NLSIU, Bengaluru. However, in some cases, flexibility may be provided based on project requirements.
Remuneration: NLSIU Research Fellowships 2026
The fellowship offers competitive monthly stipends, depending on the selected category:
- Graduate Research Fellowship: ₹55,000 – ₹65,000 per month
- Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: ₹1,00,000 – ₹1,50,000 per month
- University Research Fellowship: ₹1,70,000 – ₹2,00,000 per month

Application Deadline
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with three review rounds:
- First Review: For applications received up to September 15, 2025 (11:59 PM)
- Second Review: For applications received between September 16 and December 15, 2025 (11:59 PM)
Applicants are encouraged to apply early for priority consideration.
