About HIALSA & HILJ

The Harvard International Arbitration Law Students Association (HIALSA) and the Harvard International Law Journal (HILJ) have jointly announced their 2025–2026 Call for Submissions for short-form academic writing in international arbitration. This highly anticipated initiative aims to promote rigorous, insightful, and globally relevant scholarship in the fields of international commercial and investment arbitration.

With a long-standing reputation for academic leadership, both HIALSA and HILJ continue to provide a prestigious platform for practitioners and scholars seeking to contribute to contemporary debates and emerging trends in dispute resolution.

A Global Invitation for Arbitration Scholars and Practitioners

This year’s call encourages experts from around the world to submit original works that offer fresh perspectives, critical reasoning, and constructive discourse on international arbitration. Submissions may fall into one of the following categories:

• Brief Academic Commentary: Targeted reflections on emerging issues, evolving trends, or legal developments.
• Decision Analyses: Critical examinations of recent arbitral awards or international court judgments.
• Regional and Country Highlights: Insightful overviews of arbitration progress, reforms, or case studies within specific jurisdictions.

The aim is to spotlight diverse voices and to expand scholarly conversations that shape arbitration practices globally.

Submission Requirements

Authors must adhere to the following guidelines:

• Word Limit: 500 to 2,500 words
• Language: English
• Authorship: Single-author submissions only
• Experience: Minimum of five years of post-law-degree experience in international arbitration
• Deadline: January 15, 2026
• Format: Microsoft Word document

Eligible contributors include seasoned arbitration practitioners, academics, arbitrators, consultants, and researchers with substantial experience in international dispute resolution.

A significant highlight of this call for submissions is the publication opportunity it offers. The top two articles will be featured in:
