Workshop on Global Justice 2026 | NLSIU & University of Zurich Law School

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), in collaboration with the University of Zurich Law School, invites applications for an in-person international workshop on “Global Justice” to be held in May 2026. This academic workshop is designed for PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and early-career scholars seeking to refine advanced research through rigorous scholarly engagement.


About the Global Justice Workshop 2026

The workshop aims to bring together a small, highly focused group of scholars (12–15 participants) from NLSIU and the University of Zurich to engage in intensive discussions on advanced research papers. The emphasis is on substantive feedback, collaborative learning, and improving academic writing rather than presenting early-stage research ideas.

  • Research proposals or outlines will not be accepted
  • Submitted papers must demonstrate substantial prior research

Workshop Theme: Global Justice

The theme of Global Justice is interpreted broadly and invites critical, interdisciplinary engagement with justice beyond national boundaries.

Key Areas of Engagement Include:

  • 🌍 International Law and Global Governance
  • ⚖️ Human Rights and Inequality
  • 🌱 Climate Justice and Environmental Governance
  • 🧭 Development, Migration, and Power Asymmetries
  • 📚 Post-colonial, critical, and interdisciplinary perspectives

While the workshop primarily focuses on Public International Law, submissions from other legal and non-legal disciplines are welcome, provided they meaningfully engage with the concept of Global Justice.

Workshop Format and Structure

Selected participants will take part in a two-day intensive academic workshop at the NLSIU Bengaluru campus.

What Participants Can Expect:

  • Presentation of individual research papers
  • Serving as discussants for other participants’ papers
  • Deep, collaborative feedback sessions
  • Active engagement across all panels and discussions

🎓 Faculty members from NLSIU and the University of Zurich Law School will participate as commentators and respondents, enriching discussions with expert insights.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are open to NLSIU-affiliated scholars only.

Eligible Applicants Include:

  • PhD students at NLSIU
  • Early-career scholars affiliated with NLSIU, including:
    • Academic fellows and research staff who completed their Master’s or PhD within the last 7 years
    • Faculty members who completed their Master’s or PhD within the last 7 years

Submission Requirements: NLSIU University of Zurich Collaboration

Applicants must submit the following:

  • 📄 Draft Research Paper
    • Maximum 8,000 words
    • Must include an abstract clearly linking the paper to Global Justice
  • 📝 Statement of Purpose
    • Explaining the applicant’s interest in the workshop
    • Outlining how participation will contribute to their research
