Kautilya Society NUSRL Announces National Essay Writing Competition 2026
The Kautilya Society, National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, in collaboration with the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), has invited essay submissions for the First Edition of the National Essay Writing Competition 2026.
The competition aims to encourage students to critically examine India’s democratic framework, constitutional governance, electoral reforms, and public policy while envisioning the country’s constitutional journey towards India @2047.
Law students across India are invited to submit original research-based essays that contribute to academic and policy discussions on governance and democracy.
About Kautilya Society, NUSRL
The Kautilya Society is a student-led academic initiative established through a collaborative effort between National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi and the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, New Delhi.

Participants may write on the central theme or any relevant topic connected with it. Some indicative sub-themes include:

Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to:
- Undergraduate law students
- Postgraduate law students
- Students enrolled in any recognized university in India
Important points:
- Only individual participation is allowed.
- Co-authored submissions are not accepted.
- Only one essay may be submitted by each participant.
- Essays must be written in English.
Essay Submission Guidelines
Participants must follow these requirements:
- Word limit: 3,000–5,000 words
- Maximum title length: 12 words
- Language: English
- File format: MS Word (.docx)
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font size: 12
- Line spacing: 1.5
- Alignment: Justified
- Margin: 1 inch on all sides
Additional requirements include:
- The essay must be original and unpublished.
- Author details should not appear anywhere in the manuscript.
- Plagiarism should remain below 15%.
- AI-generated content should not exceed 10%.
- Referencing must follow OSCOLA 5th Edition using endnotes where necessary.
Submissions that fail to comply with these guidelines may be rejected.

Participants are required to:
