Department of Forests & Wildlife GNCTD Internship 2026: Eligibility, Application Process, Duration and Certificate
The Department of Forests & Wildlife, Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD) offers an internship programme 2026 for eligible students interested in forestry, ecology, environmental studies, law, economics, management, computer science, engineering and other related fields. The programme provides students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to government-based research, natural resource management and departmental activities.
About the Institution
The Department of Forests & Wildlife, Government of NCT of Delhi, is responsible for matters relating to forests, wildlife conservation, environmental protection and management of natural resources in Delhi. Through its internship programme, the Department provides students with an opportunity to understand practical aspects of research, conservation and public administration.
Selected interns work under the supervision of designated senior officers and may contribute to research and assignments relevant to the Department’s requirements.
Internship Duration
- The normal internship period will be decided according to the selected domain.
- The internship will generally not exceed 90 days.
- In exceptional cases, where an intern has completed significant work that can be taken to a logical conclusion, an extension of up to one additional month may be granted by the PCCF.
- Applicants should mention their preferred internship period while applying.
Eligibility Criteria
The internship is open to students enrolled in recognised schools, colleges, institutions and universities.
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have relevant academic qualifications for their selected domain.
- Submit a clear and relevant Statement of Purpose (SoP).
- Be enrolled in a recognised educational institution.
Eligible Academic Backgrounds
Science, Forestry, Ecology, Computer Science and Engineering
- Second year and above of bachelor’s degree programmes.
- Students pursuing integrated five-year programmes.
- Higher secondary students from the Science stream.
Commerce, Economics and Management
- BA/B.Sc./MA/M.Sc. in Economics.
- Students pursuing five-year integrated Economics programmes.
- MBA students.
- Higher secondary students from the Commerce stream.
Law
- Second and third year students of a bachelor’s degree in Law.
- Second year and above of an integrated five-year law programme.
- LLM students.
Application Process
Eligible candidates are required to apply online through the official website of the Department of Forests & Wildlife, GNCTD.
Applicants should:
- Apply preferably three months before the proposed internship period.
- Clearly mention the desired internship duration.
- Select their preferred area of interest.
- Choose a maximum of three disciplines.
- Submit an SoP of not more than 1,000 words.
- Explain their interest, relevant skills and expected contribution.
- Upload educational qualification or enrolment documents.
- Provide supporting documents for additional skills, if applicable.
- Submit a No Objection Certificate from their institution at the time of joining, wherever applicable.
Incomplete applications or applications that do not satisfy the eligibility requirements may be rejected.
Selection Process
Applications are scrutinised by the Research Advisory Committee of the Department and selection is made on merit. Preference may be given to candidates whose SoP presents innovative ideas or opportunities relevant to the Department.
A senior officer, generally of the rank of ACF or above, may be assigned as the intern’s Guide. Each Guide can supervise a maximum of 10 interns at a time.
Internship Work and Responsibilities
Selected interns may be required to:
- Conduct research related to natural resource management.
- Prepare a detailed paper or report on their assigned work.
- Participate in relevant departmental training or research activities.
- Submit a draft report before completing the internship.
- Make a final presentation before the Department, where required.
- Follow departmental discipline and instructions.
- Obtain permission before accessing departmental information or data.
The intellectual property rights in the final internship product will remain with the Department, and interns cannot use the work without prior permission.
Logistics and Certificate
The Department may provide necessary support, including transportation to work sites and printing of study material, where required for successful completion of the internship.
After successful completion, interns will receive an internship certificate along with a performance-based grading.
Stipend
No stipend will be paid under this internship programme.
