JSW Centre for the Future of Law Internship 2026 at NLSIU Bengaluru: Eligibility, Stipend and Application Process

The JSW Centre for the Future of Law (CFL) at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has invited applications for its Student Internship Programme 2026. The internship is designed for law students and postgraduate students interested in legal research, technology, policy, empirical research and developments shaping the future of the legal system.

The programme provides selected students with an opportunity to work directly with researchers and faculty members on ongoing academic and policy-oriented projects.

About JSW Centre for the Future of Law

The JSW Centre for the Future of Law was established in 2024 at NLSIU, Bengaluru, with support from the JSW Foundation.

The Centre focuses on interdisciplinary research concerning the changing relationship between law, technology and society. Its work aims to contribute to academic discussions as well as policy development.

Its broad areas of interest include:

• Law and technology
• Health regulation
• Environmental law and policy
• Corporate governance
• Artificial intelligence and law
• Legal education and the future of the legal profession
• Legal system and regulatory reforms

The Centre works with stakeholders from academia, government, regulatory institutions, civil society and industry.

About the Student Internship Programme 2026

The internship is a full-time, in-person programme conducted at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru.

Selected interns will work as Student Researchers and assist the Centre’s research team and faculty members. The programme requires interns to dedicate at least 40 hours per week and does not permit remote participation.

Internship Duration

The programme follows a rolling monthly schedule beginning May 2026.

• Each cycle starts on the first working day of the month.
• The internship ends on the last working day of that month.
• Students are expected to undertake the internship during their academic term breaks.
• Applicants with simultaneous academic or other significant commitments are not eligible.

Roles and Responsibilities

Interns may be involved in several research and academic activities, including:

• Conducting doctrinal, empirical and policy-based legal research.
• Collecting, organising and analysing research data.
• Supporting coding, annotation and qualitative or quantitative analysis.
• Working on artificial intelligence and law projects.
• Evaluating AI or LLM-generated outputs.
• Assisting with prompt design and dataset preparation.
• Preparing literature reviews, research memoranda, reports and working papers.
• Supporting workshops, lectures, conferences and other Centre activities.
• Performing research-related administrative and coordination work.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should generally meet the following requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a 3-year or 5-year law programme, or a relevant postgraduate programme.
• Able to work full-time at the NLSIU campus for at least 40 hours per week.
• Possess strong legal research and analytical abilities.
• Demonstrate an interest in at least one of the Centre’s research areas.
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be capable of independent research and completing assignments within deadlines.
