The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has announced applications for the position of Programme Manager – Litigation Fellowship for its Litigation Fellowship Programme. The opportunity is intended for experienced legal professionals and programme-management candidates interested in supporting litigation training, mentorship, professional development, and access-to-justice initiatives.
The selected candidate will be based at the NLSIU campus in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, and will work under the supervision of the Director of Clinics. The Programme Manager will coordinate with another Programme Manager and contribute to the effective implementation of the Fellowship Programme.
About the Litigation Fellowship Programme
The Litigation Fellowship Programme is designed to support 30 early-career litigators over a two-year period. Fellows are placed with experienced advocates and litigation chambers and receive structured professional support.
The programme includes:
- Mentorship from experienced litigation practitioners.
- Structured reading and learning resources.
- Training and professional-development activities.
- Regular Fellow and mentor interactions.
- Monthly, quarterly and biannual programme engagements.
- Monitoring, reporting and evaluation mechanisms.
- Peer-learning opportunities for participating Fellows.
The Programme Manager will play an important role in ensuring that the programme operates smoothly and that Fellows and mentors receive timely administrative and professional support.
Key Responsibilities of the Programme Manager
1. Fellow and Mentor Coordination
The Programme Manager will:
- Act as the primary contact for assigned Fellows and mentors.
- Monitor Fellow placements, attendance and programme milestones.
- Organize regular check-ins and programme meetings.
- Coordinate quarterly and biannual in-person engagements.
- Address and escalate placement, performance, mentorship or other concerns.
- Maintain communication between Fellows, mentors and programme administrators.
2. Reporting and Evaluation
Responsibilities will also include:
- Managing Fellow and mentor reporting processes.
- Maintaining participation and attendance records.
- Preparing periodic programme updates.
- Supporting monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Assisting with impact assessment and programme documentation.
3. Training and Capacity Building
The selected candidate will assist with:
- Reading and training programmes.
- Workshops and professional-development sessions.
- Faculty and guest-facilitator coordination.
- Skills-development activities and assessments.
- Monitoring participation and learning outcomes.
4. Administration and Outreach
The role also involves:
- Maintaining the programme calendar.
- Coordinating logistics, budgeting and procurement.
- Supporting workshops and in-person events.
- Maintaining databases, trackers, MoUs and programme records.
- Communicating with programme partners and stakeholders.
- Supporting outreach activities involving advocates and litigation chambers.
- Assisting with funder-related correspondence and reporting.
- Ensuring compliance with university and programme requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should generally meet the following requirements:
Essential Qualifications
- LL.B. or B.A. LL.B. degree.
- Fluency in reading, writing and speaking Kannada.
- Relevant professional experience in areas such as:
- Litigation practice.
- Fellowship or programme management.
- Clinical legal education.
- Legal-sector or nonprofit programme coordination.
- Strong project-management and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Ability to independently manage multiple responsibilities and stakeholders.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with appropriate discretion.
Desirable Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Knowledge of legal systems and fellowship programmes.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Spoken English and Hindi proficiency.
- Litigation or chamber experience.
- Knowledge of Bengaluru’s litigation ecosystem.
- Experience with university clinical programmes or legal nonprofits.
- Experience in grant management, funder reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
Experience Required
The position primarily seeks candidates with 4 or more years of project or programme-management experience, particularly in legal education, access to justice or nonprofit organisations.
However, the experience requirement may be relaxed depending on a candidate’s educational qualifications and overall suitability.
Salary and Employment Terms
The position is offered on a full-time contractual basis. The initial appointment is for one year and may be renewed depending upon performance and programme requirements.
Compensation will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications, relevant professional experience and applicable NLSIU norms.
