About NALSA
The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was established under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to strengthen access to justice and provide free legal services to eligible sections of society. NALSA coordinates and supports legal services institutions operating at different levels, including State and District Legal Services Authorities.

Eligibility Criteria
Students pursuing either of the following courses from a recognised university, college or institution can apply:
- Three-Year LL.B. programme
- Five-Year Integrated Law programme
Preference is generally given to students in the 3rd to 5th year of a five-year integrated law course and students in the 2nd or 3rd year of a three-year LL.B. course.
Selection Process
Selection is not necessarily based on academic merit alone. As specified in the internship guidelines, selection may be conducted through a draw of lots, with the decision of the competent authority being final.
Therefore, submitting an application does not guarantee selection.

The programme is designed to provide practical exposure to India’s legal aid and justice-delivery framework.

Important Internship Guidelines
Applicants should remember the following:
- The internship is full-time and physical.
- NALSA does not provide accommodation.
- No stipend, remuneration or TA/DA is provided.
- Interns should carry their own laptops.
- Students may need to travel locally for court and institutional visits.
- Formal black-and-white dress is required.
- Professional discipline and appropriate etiquette must be maintained.
- At least 90% attendance is required for successful completion.
- Students should avoid applying during their university examination period.
- Interns are not expected to undertake another course or employment during the internship.
Internship Certificate
Students who successfully complete the programme and satisfy the attendance requirement are eligible to receive an Internship Certificate. NALSA does not provide a letter of recommendation to interns.

- Expression of Interest of one page or less
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the appropriate authority
