About NLUD Journal on Labour

Call for papers for the second edition of the NLUD (NLU Delhi) Journal on Labour, published by the Centre for Labour Law Research and Advocacy at the National Law University, Delhi.The journal is an annual, double-blind, peer-reviewed publication focusing on interdisciplinary scholarship on labour issues.The theme for the 2025-26 issue is “Labour, Capitalism, and Unfree Labour,” with sub-themes including work relationships, exploitation, feminist and intersectional analyses, marginalised labour, modern slavery, and global capitalism.

Special Articles

  • 8000 – 10000 words o Special articles should contribute to theoretical or empirical knowledge within the thematic area of the current issue. Contributors are expected to engage deeply with the journal’s overarching theme, offering innovative and reassessment perspectives.

Short Articles

  1. 5000 – 8000 words o Authors are encouraged to choose themes of contemporary relevance to ensure the article’s significance and impact. While empirical research is highly valued, purely theoretical pieces that provide new insights or challenge existing paradigms are also welcome.

Insights/Perspectives

  • 3500 – 4500 words o Short theoretical discussions based on contemporary happenings or futuristic solutions to any deadlock around labour in specific areas are welcome under this section. This section invites write-ups based on real issues which are seldom noticed in the literature.

Book Reviews/Case Notes

  • 2500 – 3000 words o The journal accepts a limited number of book reviews and case notes for each issue. Authors are encouraged to review books published by nationally and internationally recognised publishers. Cases must be based on landmark decisions of the Supreme Court or the High Courts on labour issues.

Field Notes/Pictorial Commentaries

  • 1-2 pages. This section welcomes any methodological material, such as field notes or pictorial representations, that provide grounded narratives or experiences.

Style Guidelines: Call for Papers NLUD Journal on Labour

  • All submissions (except Book Reviews) should be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 300 words and 5 important keywords.
  • All word limits are inclusive of footnotes.
  • Referencing and citations must conform to the APA Citation style. Formatting and Citation Guidelines
  • The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
  • The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, font size 10, with single line spacing.
  • A one-line gap must be maintained between all paragraphs and headings.
  • All paragraphs must begin with a one-inch indent.
  • The manuscript should consist of footnotes and references.

Eligibility

Submissions from undergraduate/postgraduate students are not accepted.

Theme of the Second Issue (2025-26): NLUD Journal on Labour Law

This annual thematic journal aims to provide a platform for interdisciplinary writings on labour issues, with its second issue focusing on the theme “Labour, Capitalism and Unfree Labour’’ A few subtopics identified but not limited to this issue are as follows:

  • Nature of work, work relationship and occupational style
  • Political economy, informal sector and forms of exploitation
  • Labour and Development discourse on forms of oppression of labour
  • Feminist analysis of Labour, Migration and Exploitation
  • Intersectional analysis of Labour confluence
  • Marginalised labour categories and historical injustices
  • Structure of Labour Law and its exclusion of Labourers
  • Just transition debates on labour
  • New industries, new cities and new labour
  • Urban development and labour
  • Outcaste labour in India
  • Socio-legal genealogy of Modern Slavery
  • Global Capitalism, Global Supply Chains and forms of forced lab

Important Dates

  • Submission begins: 15th July 2025
  • Final submission deadline: 30th October 2025
  • Acceptance confirmation: 30th March 2026
