About Department of Commerce Legal Young Professionals

The Department of Commerce (DoC), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has issued an official advertisement dated 28 November 2025 announcing the engagement of Independent Consultants across various specialised divisions.
These consultants will support India’s Foreign Trade Policy, international trade negotiations, export promotion, data analytics, public policy, and legal compliance.

The recruitment will be carried out as per DoC Guidelines dated 21.11.2025.

 

Positions Available

The Department is hiring for the following consultant categories:

Note: 🔹 Ph.D. holders will receive up to 3 years’ experience credit, but no employment during Ph.D. years will be counted.

Eligibility & Educational Qualifications

Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:

EconomicsMaster’s degree in Economics (preferably International Trade)
LegalLLB/LLM or PG Diploma in any legal field
Public Policy / International AffairsMaster’s in Public Policy, International Affairs or International Trade
General ManagementMBA or equivalent from NIRF Top-100 institute / NICMAR Construction Management
Data ScienceB.Tech/BE, MCA, or Master’s in Data Science / Analytics / Computational Mathematics

Foreign degrees will be evaluated using Times Higher Education / QS World Rankings.

Selection Process

Application Submission → Shortlisting → Interview Call → Document Verification → Final Engagement

How Shortlisting Works

  • Only 3 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted
  • Criteria include:
    • NIRF ranking of the institution
    • Academic performance
    • Relevant professional experience

Total number of vacancies will be notified separately.

Engagement Terms & Work Conditions

Working Hours

  • 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday
  • May be required to work weekends/holidays depending on workload

Leave Rules

  • 1.5 days leave per month
  • Up to one month leave without pay (with approval)
  • Maternity Leave as per Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017

Remuneration

  • As per DoC Guidelines, subject to TDS/Professional tax
  • No additional allowances or benefits

Other Key Conditions

  • Must submit:
    • Police Verification Report
    • Medical Fitness Certificate
  • Must sign:
    • Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
    • Non-Compete Agreement
  • Bound by Official Secrets Act, 1923
  • No future claim for permanent government employment

Grounds for Termination

  • Poor performance
  • Misconduct or breach of confidentiality
  • Conflict of interest
  • False/forged documents
  • Department may terminate with 30 days’ notice
  • Consultant can also resign with 30 days’ notice

🛫 Travel Requirements

  • Consultants may be assigned travel duties across India.
  • TA/DA benefits will be provided as per DoC norms.
