Delhi Forest Department Internship 2026: Eligibility, Duration, Application Process & Key Rules

Internship @ Department of Forests and Wildlife (DFW), Government of NCT of Delhi

The Department of Forests and Wildlife (DFW), Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD) offers an internship programme 2026 for students interested in environmental management, law, economics, science, and related fields. This internship allows students to gain practical exposure to natural resource management and research-based work.

Internship Duration: DFW Internship 2026

  • The internship duration is decided by the Department based on the selected domain.
  • Normally, the internship cannot exceed 90 days.
  • In exceptional cases, where the intern is working on a significant project, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) may extend the internship for up to one additional month.

Eligibility Criteria: DFW Internship 2026

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be studying in a recognized school, college, or university.
  • Preference is given to candidates with a clear and well-written Statement of Purpose (SoP) explaining their interest.

Educational Qualifications

Students from different academic backgrounds can apply on a merit basis.

1. Science and Technical Fields

Eligible applicants include students pursuing:

  • Science
  • Forestry
  • Ecology
  • Computer Science
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Related disciplines

Eligibility level:

  • Second year or above of bachelor’s degree or integrated 5-year programme
  • Higher secondary (Science stream) students

2. Commerce, Economics, and Management

Eligible students include:

  • BA / B.Sc. / MA / M.Sc. in Economics
  • Students in 5-year integrated Economics programmes
  • MBA students

3. Law Students

Law candidates may apply if they are:

  • In 2nd or 3rd year of a 3-year LL.B. programme, or
  • 2nd year or above of a 5-year integrated law course, or
  • Pursuing LL.M.

4. Higher Secondary Students

Students in Science or Commerce streams at the higher secondary level are also eligible.

Application Process

Interested candidates must follow these steps:

  • Apply online through the official website of the Department of Forests and Wildlife, GNCTD.
  • Submit the application preferably 3 months before the desired internship period.
  • Clearly mention the internship duration and area of interest.
  • Applicants can select a maximum of three disciplines.
  • Upload supporting documents such as educational qualifications and skill certificates.

Statement of Purpose (SoP)

Applicants must submit an SoP of up to 1000 words, covering:

  • Interest in the chosen field
  • Relevant skills and knowledge
  • Expected contribution to the department

Selection Process

  • Applications are reviewed by the Research Advisory Committee of the Department.
  • Selection is made purely on merit.
  • Candidates presenting innovative ideas in their SoP may receive preference.

Important Internship Rules

Selected interns must follow these conditions:

  • Each senior officer (Guide) can supervise up to 10 interns at a time.
  • Interns must prepare a research paper or detailed report related to natural resource management.
  • A presentation may be required at the end of the internship.
  • Work must be completed under the guidance of a designated officer.
  • The final research output becomes the intellectual property of the Department.
  • Unsatisfactory performance may lead to termination of the internship.

Facilities Provided

The Department may provide limited logistical support such as:

  • Transportation to field sites
  • Printing and study material assistance
  • Research guidance from senior officers

Stipend and Certificate

  • No stipend is provided during the internship.
  • After successful completion, interns receive an experience certificate with performance grading.
