The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India, offers an internship programme designed to provide students, scholars, teachers and social activists with practical exposure to women and child development policies, research and government programmes.

MWCD Internship 2026: Who Can Apply?

The internship programme is primarily open to:

  • Women students, scholars, teachers and social activists.
  • Applicants between 21 and 40 years of age.
  • Candidates associated with an academic or non-academic institution.
  • Applicants from non-Tier-I cities and rural areas.
  • Candidates from major Tier-I cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune, are excluded under the stated eligibility conditions.

Internship Duration and Batches

The MWCD internship is conducted in four terms every year:

  • May–June
  • August–September
  • November–December
  • February–March

Each selected intern is required to complete a two-month internship.

Work and Responsibilities of Interns

During the internship, selected candidates may get an opportunity to:

  • Participate in pilot projects and micro-studies.
  • Assist in policy research and data analysis.
  • Study and evaluate government schemes and programmes.
  • Interact with Ministry officials and relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare research reports, papers and presentations.
  • Work on contemporary issues concerning women and child development.

MWCD Internship Stipend and Benefits

Selected interns may receive several benefits, including:

  • Stipend: ₹20,000 per month
  • Travel reimbursement as per applicable conditions, including AC 3-tier train or deluxe bus.
  • Sharing-based hostel accommodation in Delhi, subject to availability and applicable conditions.
  • Internship certificate after successful completion.
  • Logistic support and mentorship from Ministry officials.

Number of Interns

The Ministry may select a maximum of 20 interns in each batch. Selection is undertaken through a committee appointed by the Ministry, with assistance from faculty members and experts where required.

Selection and Termination

Applications are evaluated by the designated selection committee. Candidates selected for an internship may not be permitted to apply again for subsequent batches.

The Ministry may terminate an internship where an intern fails to maintain satisfactory performance, violates programme requirements or does not comply with applicable conditions.
