- The State Information Commissioner is abbreviated as SIC.
- The State Information Commission (SIC) is a quasi-judicial body established under the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act). It is responsible for hearing and deciding appeals filed by individuals who have been denied information by public authorities under the RTI Act.
- The SIC is headed by a Chief State Information Commissioner (CSIC) and other State Information Commissioners (SICs). The CSIC and SICs are appointed by the Governor of the state on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Chief Justice of the High Court, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly.
- The SIC has the power to summon and examine witnesses and to direct public authorities to provide information to individuals. It can also impose penalties on public authorities for failing to comply with its orders.
- The SIC is an important institution in ensuring transparency and accountability in government. It plays a vital role in empowering citizens to access information and hold the government accountable.

- Student pursuing a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in the field of law or humanities is encouraged to apply.
- Senior law students can apply.
