About the internship

The National Commission for Women (NCW) is a statutory body of the Government of India that was established in 1992 to safeguard the rights of women and promote gender equality. The NCW offers internship opportunities to students and young professionals who are passionate about working for women’s rights.

Interns at the NCW are placed in various departments, such as the Complaints and Investigation Cell, the Legal Cell, the Research and Development Cell, and the Public Relations Cell. They may be involved in a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Assisting with the investigation of complaints of violence and discrimination against women
  • Conducting research on women’s issues
  • Drafting reports and briefs on women’s rights
  • Organizing and participating in awareness-raising events and campaigns
  • Providing support to women victims of violence and abuse

Internships at the NCW are typically for a duration of three months, and interns are expected to work full-time. Interns are not paid a stipend, but they are provided with a certificate of completion at the end of their internship.

To be eligible for an internship at the NCW, applicants must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as social work, law, or gender studies. Applicants must also have a strong academic record and be fluent in English.

Applications for internships at the NCW are accepted on a quarterly basis. Applicants can submit their applications online through the NCW website.

Eligibility Criteria

50% weightage for the percentage obtained and 50% weightage for the quality of the “Statement of Purpose” uploaded as part of the proforma. The closing period would be quarterly (January-March, April-June, July-September, and October-December).

Scheme A:

Unpaid Internship for a period not less than 30 days for 1st-year students of 3-year LLB Course or 3rd-year students of a 5-year LLB Course OR 1st-year students of Postgraduate in Sociology/Social Work


Scheme B:

Students of the second year of the 3-year LLB Course OR 4th/ 5th year BA LLB/BBA LLB/ B.Sc. LLB Courses OR 2nd-year student of Postgraduate in Sociology/ Social Work/ Gender Issue/ Women Studies/ Gender Studies/ Students of LLM/M.Phil. / Ph.D. Scholars

Stipend for Scheme A and B

Rs.10,000/- P.M.*

Scheme C:

Students in 2nd year of MA (Psychology) OR M.Sc. Clinical Psychology

Stipend Scheme for Psychology:

Paid Internship for a period of 60 days (Rs.10, 000/-* per month as Stipend)

    * No Stipend shall be paid if the intern works for less than 60 days.
