ToggleHigh Court of Calcutta Recruitment for (Entry Level) District Judge
The High Court of Calcutta has announced a recruitment drive for the position of Entry Level District Judge in 2024. Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria, which include a law degree and a certain amount of experience, can apply for the position. The selection process will involve multiple rounds, including a written exam, an interview, and a personality test. The successful candidates will be appointed to the judiciary and will play a crucial role in administering justice in the state of West Bengal.
Qualification: District Judge (Entry Level)
No person shall be eligible for appointment by direct recruitment unless: –
- he/she is a citizen of India.
- he/ she has attained the age of 35 years and has not attained the age of 45 years (relaxation of 3 years on upper age for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes) on the 1st day of January 2024.
- he/she has been practicing for not less than seven years as an advocate as on 01-01-2024; and
- he/she has good character and is of sound health and free from any bodily defect which renders him/her unfit for such appointment.
Syllabus
The Written Test in the Second Phase consists of 05 (five) papers (Paper I – V) mentioned below. Each paper carries 100 (one hundred) marks. The time for giving an answer is 03 (three) hours for each paper. The total marks for the written test in the second phase are 500 (five hundred).

- Precis Writing.
- Essay Writing on General Awareness Topics.

- Code of Civil Procedure including its application to commercial courts.
- Arbitration & Conciliation Act including its application to commercial courts.
- Limitation Act.
- Specific Relief Act.
- Law relating to Intellectual Property.
- Law relating to Contract.
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam’2024.
Paper3.
- Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita’2024.
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’2024.
- Negotiable Instruments Act (Sections 138 to147).
- NDPS Act.
- Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act.
- Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
- Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

VIVA-VOCE:
- Further 100 (one hundred) marks are reserved for Viva-Voce/ Personality Test.
The Selection Board shall call such number of successful candidates in the written test in the Second Phase for viva-voce/personality test as it thinks fit strictly according to merit list prepared on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by those candidates but such number in no case should exceed five times the number of vacant posts.
