Who Can Apply: WBSLSA Summer Internship 2026 Eligibility
You are eligible for the WBSLSA Summer Internship 2026 if you are:
- 3-Year LLB students: Currently in 2nd or 3rd year
- 5-Year Integrated Law students: Currently in 4th or final year
- LL.M students: Currently pursuing the course
- Ph.D scholars: Will be given due consideration
Important: Students who have previously interned with WBSLSA are not eligible for a second internship.
Key Objectives of the WBSLSA Summer Internship
The internship is designed to give law students practical insight into pro-bono legal work and the functioning of legal services institutions. Core objectives include:
- Sensitization to Legal Aid: Understand legal schemes for vulnerable groups under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987
- Exposure to ADR Mechanisms: Learn about Lok Adalats, mediation, conciliation, and pre-litigation settlements that provide swift, litigation-free justice
- Social Responsibility: Foster mindfulness about the necessity of free legal aid in India’s unequal society
- Field Experience: Interact with correctional homes, juvenile justice boards, child welfare committees, senior citizen homes, courts, and legal literacy camps
What Interns Do During WBSLSA Summer Internship
Interns report to their assigned DLSA and work under the supervision of the Secretary, DLSA. You will be required to:
- Sign daily attendance at the Secretary, DLSA office during office hours
- Visit institutions: Central/Sub Correctional Homes, Observation Homes, Juvenile Justice Boards, Child Welfare Committees, Children’s Homes, Senior Citizen Homes, and various courts
- Observe legal processes: Mediation at ADR Centres, Lok Adalat proceedings, and the role of legal services lawyers
- Understand DLSA functioning: Work of the ‘front office’, legal aid provisions for beneficiaries, drafting applications and petitions, victim compensation schemes, and administrative work
- Attend programs: Legal literacy and legal awareness programmes in the district
- Submit a report: Furnish a detailed report on your experience with suggestions for developing the functioning of Legal Services Authorities
Important Conditions for WBSLSA Internship 2026
- Unpaid Internship: No stipend or allowance is provided by SLSA, West Bengal
- Self-Arranged Stay: Interns must arrange their own boarding, lodging, and local travel within the district and Kolkata
- Mandatory Attendance: 21 working days at the assigned DLSA are required
- Orientation: Conducted by the Registrar-cum Deputy Secretary, WBSLSA

- Fill Application Forms: Download and fill Annexure-A and Annexure-B within one week of the notice date
