ToggleHNLU and Chhattisgarh Police Organise Cybersecurity Awareness Programme in Nava Raipur
Nava Raipur, September 24, 2026: Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Nava Raipur, in association with the Chhattisgarh Police, organised a cybersecurity awareness programme titled “Defending the Digital Frontier – A Cybersecurity Awareness Primer” on September 24, 2026.
The programme was conducted through HNLU’s Centre for Internet Governance and Artificial Intelligence (CIGAI) as part of the Cyber Jagruti Abhiyan, a statewide cybersecurity awareness initiative of the Chhattisgarh Police.
The initiative focused on increasing awareness about cybercrime, online financial fraud, artificial intelligence-related risks and responsible digital behaviour.
Key Highlights of the Cybersecurity Awareness Programme
The programme brought together students, faculty members and police officials to discuss the growing challenges associated with the digital environment.
Major areas discussed during the programme included:
- Cybersecurity awareness and safe digital practices
- Online financial fraud and suspicious transactions
- Cybersecurity concerns affecting women and vulnerable users
- Cybercrime and relevant provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023
- Artificial Intelligence and emerging cyber risks
- Legal challenges arising in cyberspace
- Importance of reporting cyber incidents promptly
- Responsible use of digital platforms and emerging technologies
Focus on Online Fraud and Digital Safety
Shri Gajendra Yadav, Minister for Law and Legislative Affairs, Government of Chhattisgarh, spoke about changing methods used by cybercriminals. He highlighted fraudulent communications in which offenders may impersonate relatives, acquaintances or other trusted persons.
Students were encouraged to remain cautious when receiving unexpected calls or messages and to verify information before taking financial or other sensitive actions.
The programme also encouraged young people to promote cybersecurity awareness among their families and communities.
Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity
Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor of HNLU, highlighted that cybersecurity is no longer limited to technical systems. It has become an important part of responsible digital citizenship.
Participants were advised to exercise caution while opening unfamiliar links, responding to unsolicited communications and sharing personal or sensitive information.
The discussions also examined the dual nature of Artificial Intelligence. While AI can support innovation and efficiency, its misuse can create new forms of cybercrime and increase the sophistication of online fraud.
Role of Police and Legal Education
Smt. Shweta Shrivastav Sinha, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Raipur Rural, emphasised awareness, vigilance and timely reporting as important measures for addressing cybercrime.
Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Registrar (I/C), HNLU, highlighted the role of educational institutions in developing digitally responsible citizens who can safely navigate an increasingly technology-driven society.
The technical sessions connected legal knowledge with practical cybersecurity measures, helping participants understand both prevention and response mechanisms.
