The Bureau of Police Research & Development, BPRD (BPR&D), functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has invited applications for its Paid Internship Programme 2026–27. This highly reputed internship is aimed at postgraduate and PhD students who wish to gain first-hand exposure to police research, correctional administration, forensic science, cyber security, and public policy at the national level .
About BPR&D
Established in 1970, the Bureau of Police Research & Development assists the Central Government in:
- Police and prison reforms
- Training and capacity building
- Research on internal security and correctional administration
- Application of science and technology in policing
The Bureau operates through multiple divisions, including:

Objective of the Paid Internship Programme
The BPR&D Internship Programme, launched in 2017, is designed to:
- Provide practical exposure to students in police and prison administration
- Encourage research-based learning on contemporary internal security issues
- Enable interns to contribute to policy-oriented research projects
Duration of Internship
Applicants can choose between two internship plans:
- 30 Days Internship
- Minimum 22 working days
- 2 Months Internship
- Minimum 44 working days
Both formats include structured division-wise training and field exposure .
Eligibility Criteria
The internship is open only to students (not working professionals) pursuing Post-Graduation or PhD in the following disciplines:
- Law
- Criminology
- Sociology
- Psychology / Forensic Psychology
- Social Work
- Human Rights
- Public Administration
- Public Policy & Governance
- Cyber Security & Cyber Forensics
- Information Technology
- Police & Prison Studies
- Computer Science
- Management
- Any discipline related to police, prison, or correctional administration
Important Conditions:
- Application must be forwarded by the Head of Department (HOD)
- Students who have earlier interned at BPR&D are not eligible .
Nature of Work & Training Structure
Interns will undergo a structured programme including:
- Introductory sessions with senior officers of BPR&D
- Division-wise attachment across major departments
- Assignment of research tasks and projects
- Field visits to:
- Police Stations
- Correctional Homes
- Juvenile Homes (optional)
- Preparation and submission of an internship report
- Valediction ceremony on completion of internship .
Facilities Provided to Interns
Selected interns will receive:
- Access to BPR&D library and publications
- Computer, internet, and printing facilities
- Exposure to real-time police and correctional administration systems
Stipend & Travel Benefits
- ₹8,000 per month stipend for all selected interns
- Sleeper class train fare reimbursement for interns traveling from outside Delhi (shortest route)
- Boarding and lodging in Delhi to be arranged by the intern.
